Competition
The Manchester Pipe Band is a competition focused bagpipe band based in central Connecticut, USA. The band was founded in 1914 making it one of the oldest bagpipe bands in the nation. The Manchester Pipe Band has a well-established track record of success in musical competition and currently fields competition bands in Grade 3 and Grade 5.
Over the course of the competitive pipe band movement, MPB has fielded bands in every grade from 5 to 1. Band members commit untold hours toward personal practice and group rehearsal in order to master the fundamental techniques and finite intricacies necessary for competitive success.
Pipe Band competitions take place over the course of the Spring and Summer months at local, regional, and international gatherings, and are adjudicated under the auspices of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association (EUSPBA), Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO), or Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA).

The Grade 3 band is led by Pipe Major Dan Pisowloski and Drum Sergeant Gordon Bell.
Grade 5 Band
Pipe Major Margaret Lynch
Manchester Pipe Band’s Grade 5 band is composed of both novice players who are just starting to play their instruments in the band setting, and experienced players who want an avenue by which to explore the competitive side of Piping and Drumming. The Grade 5 band is led by Pipe Major Margaret Lynch and Drum Sergeant Jake Otto.
The EUSPBA recognizes that music competitions provide a means of improving piping, drumming, and pipe band musical performances, and has established a set of rules and regulations. The EUSPBA aspires to assist individuals and bands in reaching, not only their highest competitive potential, but also raising the level of the art.
